I THINK THEY LOVE BASIL OR THEY WOULDNT BE DIGGING FOR THE LAST BIT THEY CAN GET.

@muddymuddymuddmann You aren't thinking about things clearly, old buddy. It's obvious that we, the ignorant and unwashed masses, must be guided gently toward the utopian ideal. Without the benelovent guidance of those that know far better than us, we might lapse into complete societal disintegration. CAN"T YOU SEE??? This is why toilets must be regulated, light bulbs must meet low energy standards, and no child should be home schooled. Next is mandatory tranquilizers. It's impetative.

THE RULES OF YOUR COMMUNITY SEEM A BIT STRANGE. BILL S510 WANTS TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL FOR ALL GARDENS NATIONWIDE, AND NO SELLING OF GARDEN FOODS OR EVEN GIVING THEM AWAY TO NEIGHBORS. JAIL TIME AND HEAVY FINES, THIS KEEPS THE GOV IN CONTROL. AND IT WANTS ORGANIC FARMING TO BE ILLEGAL TOO. CORPORATE GMOs WILL TAKE OVER JUST FOR THE FOOD SOURCE AND MONEY SOURCE IN THEIR POCKETS. CHECK OUT EAT THE WEEDS.

@muddymuddymuddmann Before you fill it with dirt, watch some youtube vids by growingyourgreens. The guy is some kind of gardening genius, loads of advice and tips. He fills his raised beds with organic compost and rock dust. He gets amazing results, and huge yields. I might also add a small raised bed to my system next spring, might even do more, but I'm limited due to the rules in my community. I'm not supposed to have ANY kind of vegetable garden!

@DIYMakerman YUP! THAT'S THE KEY. I WANTED TO DO IT THAT WAY THIS YEAR. JUST NEVER GOT TOGETHER WITH THE PROJECT THAT LONG. WORK AND OTHER THINGS KEPT TAKING ALL THE SPARE TIME. I CERTAINLY HAVE ENOUGH BUCKETS TO DO IT WITH. WE HAVE A NEW IDEA TO GO WITH THIS NEXT YEAR. I HOPE I HAVE THE TIME FOR THAT. IT WILL BE A SINGLE SOLID RAISED GARDEN, WITH AN AUTOMATIC WATERING TABLE THAT STRETCHES THE FULL LENGTH. I MIGHT BUILD IT NOW AND FILL IT WITH DIRT FOR A HEAD START.

@muddymuddymuddmann Kohlrabi is okay. Pretty much the same as a broccoli stem. Looking at your bucket garden, though, I'd really recommend you set up one something like I had this year. I never had to water it by hand (except to get some seeds started), and the plants were always perfectly watered. None of my plants died, and I never had to think about being sure I was there to water the garden. Absolutely turnkey. Perfect for a slacker like me that still wants homegrown vegetables.
