One of the most beautiful films ever made--in photography, actors, story, music and lessons in living. The ending is heart breaking, and,yet very real. The significance of the umbrellas through out the story shows how most people seek safety when in doubt instead of allowing natural elements and chance to to follow its uncetain path. By seeking safety, they sometimes lose the things that they want most to gain and that has change the life they live.

Lovely movie by an (at least here in Germany) underrated director, with a fantastic soundtrack by the wonderful Michel Legrand who was also a dedicated jazzman.
