all of you bleeding heart treehuggers should have to go work a real job for a change. Try to feed a family while every pencil pushing, desk jokey with a federal grant is trying to run you out of business. Then you just might have the right to give your opinion.Until then keep it to yourself.

if the feds would wake up and learn what really goes on dragging and ban the import of foreign farm raised fish that are pumped full of growth hormones and antibiotics so that our fish prices would go up (we are getting paid less for high quality fish now than in the 70s) then we would not have to try to catch every fish possible in a trip and only what was needed.

@Turne11i well actually, they are a VITAL part of our ecosystem. Without fish, many species cannot survive, like albatrosses, bears, seals/sea lions, toothed whales... And if these populations were to vanish, then our ocean could probably only sustain jellyfish, because there would be no plants(caused by the nitrogen cycle disruption.) Yes, we should eat fish, but keep in mind we are overexploiting the resource, and once it is gone we will never again have a major oceanic food source. Peace.

i know shrimp trawl have smaller trawl doors but do they also drag those on the bottom...or do they pull the doors along the midwater area to keep the net open?...basically what im asking is when they use trawl doors when shrimping do they use them on the bottom or midwater

to all of you who are so worried about the population of fish, WHAT THE FUCK GOOD ARE THEY DOING BESIDES TO BE EATEN?
-
You tree huggers might do everyone more justice if you get the damn feds to allow these guys to sell the bycatch, you think they like sending potential money overboard? Take your head out your arse.
And the cry babies not catching anything, your really heading offshore jigging in your skiff, where these draggers are. I doubt like hell you are.

i wanna see these ass holes go spearfishing. Then fishing isnt so easy...

Damn shame. Millions of "unintended catch" tossed dead overboard. We have become too good at catching fish. I've seen hundreds of dead/ floating stripped bass thrown overboard after a trawler came through L.I. Sound. They are allowed only so many...so when they catch too much, they toss them back DEAD. (they drown in the nets and on deck)

Damn shame. We need to ban this kind of fishing. Millions of "unintended catch" tossed dead overboard. Sin.
arent lobsters suppose to be thrown over,they're dead anyway just like everything else that comes up in the codend

Only when federal officials are shedueled and then only the legal species will be found. Trawling is petroleum development in Canada.

@orionsgolfer
You've obviously never been on a dragger before. Most of the catch is alive when it's brought aboard, as they flop around violently. You see more dead fish on long liners than you do on draggers
