i work at hollywood video too...it fucking sucks balls. i havent met ANYONE who LIKES working there. what this store director DIDN'T tell you is that you can get FIRED if you don't "sell" enough concessions and movie subscriptions like POWERPLAY or the old MVP. you really don't have any control on what other people want, so why should you get fired for it?

I've worked for HV for 2+ years and I enjoyed it. As for getting "fired" for not selling enough concessions or movie subscriptions, that's retail my friend. If you don't make an obvious effort to sell what you're told, the company will find someone else to replace you. It's even worse if you get a commissioned sales job and your entire pay rests on how much merchendise you sell that day. HV is VERY lenient when trying to meet respectful quotas or goals for the day.

I worked at the Massapequa, NY Hollywood Video from 2/8/2003-3/8/2008. I will treasure the memories I have of working there for the rest of my life. I worked with a number of really cool people, I saw a bunch of great movies, and I serviced a multitude of wonderful people in my community. Aside from the occasional staff politics, corporate BS, thefts, the few crazy, and blood-thirsty customers, and uptight district managers, I enjoyed working there and have no regrets.

Working for Blockbuster video for 3+ years I can agree & relate with a lot of what she said. One of my store mangers told me "you can teach store duties but you can't teach sales" meaning they don't want you if you can't sell. It can be a madhouse sometimes you can have a bunch of customers barking orders at you when its busy. Compared to some other jobs Blockbuster or Hollywood is a cakewalk it could be worse you could work for McDonalds for less money.

i used to work at a hollywood video as a shift leader. i had the time of my life!!! it sucks that it closed down. i wish the company doesn't go away!!

I worked for hollywood video for 3 years and their is a reason their going out of business!! Hollywood Video is a very unorganized business....
