Steamtown: The Ice Train

On January 19th, 2008, the Steamtown National Historic Site ran an annual winter roundtrip, from Scranton, PA to Tobyhanna, PA. Penn Rail Videos will take you trackside as we follow Steamtown's powerhouse #3254, as she travels through the Poconos. Though built in 1917, this ol' girl can still handle trains like she once did in Canada. For the snow lovers, this is one video you do not want to miss.

The way the whistle starts up at 4:04 is the scariest freakiest sound ever. Beautiful loco. Doesnt quite make it to the top of my favourite non British steam locos

@dctim That sound is water being sucked into the whistle. British engines don't have this problem because their whistles at the most are 3 chimes, and a smaller whistles. This is a 5-chime whistle which in turn sucks up more steam.

Now why can't other railroads use that kind of lash-up for the return trip? This proves pretty efficient.
