  • In my 1st college flat in 1992, I devoured this album, along w/everything else PF @that time. Read the Schaffner book, smoked a pail of pot, &did all the other requistite things that introspected, musicology students will do. In all honesty~ Have 2say now upon retrospect, I think Barrett gets more than enough, if not 2much credit 4Floyd. Had some wonderful ideas. But his ability cudnt/wudnt carry them thru. W/o Dave/Rick, even THIS album doesnt get done. We all need all cult figures, I reckon.

  • @1960pj

I think Syd does all the lead guitar parts except the intro to "Baby Lemonade." It just sounds too sloppy and sporadic to be David. Sure David was/is an incredibly skilled, versatile guitarist and was definitely capable of impersonating someone like Syd, but whenever he covers Barrett's stuff (be it 1968 or 2008) it still sounds like David Gilmour on guitar.

The interesting thing is, though, that Syd's guitar playing is much more rooted in Blues than on "Piper."

  • Syd & I are geniuses. Just not very smart ones! Syd was much smarter than I ! ! !

Y yr right about David & Rick.

  • I believe the lead guitar is actually played by David Gilmour. David Gilmour and Rick Wright actually did a lot of the music production to help lift the songs. They would add the fine touches as needed. They understood Syd's ideas better than most, I would say.

  • @1fatpigrat say that to the man who created dark side of the moon. But no disrespect i totally agree i love syd and his creative lyrics R.I.P syd.

  • this sounds as good as the albums of that time like "Sgt. Pepper" and "Are you Experienced"......amazes me how some albums go without notice.

  • @SkateTS808 possibly not, SYD broke them you know.

  • @MrWillysampson Ibelieve David Gilmour went into the studio to play lead as Syd was really quite unwell at this time.I play Syds solo work a lot, i think it is original and great listening,it seems so English!!

  • today is the day syd passed away. four years gone. the piper at the gates of dawn.

his soul lives on in his music. all my love to roger barrett.
