This video shows how to fix plasterboard or drywall to a solid wall using fixing foam. This method is quicker and easier than drywall adhesive and can be an extremely easy way of fixing plasterboard to a solid wall. brought to you by http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/forum1/

  • probably a silly question, but why couldn't you just screw directly into the wall without adhesive.. i'm guessing as i've never done plasterboarding that it's because the wall isn't completely plumb?

    cheers again.

  • @tommmmmer

The foam helps on a wall that is not 100% plumb as it evens out the surface. If you had to screw a full sheet to a masonry wall you would need probably 30 or more fixings to make it hold properly, which would take ages to drill etc.

  • What was the brand name of the adhesive you're using?

Could you not have drilled some holes in the board then pressed the board against the wall then squirted the adhesive threw the holes

It was SIKA foam, which is designed for this purpose. Ever build also make a similar foam. It's great for fixing plasterboard, but much easier to apply when you can lie the board flat.

No, I have never used it before. To do proper soundproofing it costs a fortune and involves lots of work. The soundbloc might help, especially if you overboard the existing ceiling.

That might be useful, I'll add it to my list ;-)

    Thanks for the comments

    ahh good stuff.

is the gyproc soundbloc plaster something you've used before? haven't yet boarded my lounges ceiling and was thinking for a few extra quid I might try soundbloc so the noise is less upstairs when watching tv at night.

  • @ultimatehandyman I haven't come across that many sites where I could lay a sheet down flat. That'd be a bloody luxury! There seems to have been a lot of really good adhesives coming to the market in recent years. There might be a video in that for you. Different adhesives and their applications. Unless you've already done one...
