Judy Garland - Liza (1963)

Here's the intro to the episode #3 of The Judy Garland Show when Liza Minnelli was the guest star. That's a beautiful performance with Judy singing Gershwin's song "Liza" while surrounded by pictures of her daughter. You can tell how proud Judy was of her baby.


*"Liza (All The Clouds'll Roll Away)" was written in 1929 for the Broadway musical, Show Girl. It is said that this song was the reason why Judy choose the name Liza for her daughter. Liza once said in an interview that her father told her once that when her mother was pregnant she woke up in the middle of the night, woke him up and said out of nowhere 'Liza Minnelli would look great on a marquee!' and went right back to sleep, and that's how the name was chosen.*

*Ira Gershwin who wrote the lyrics (his brother George composed the melody) was Liza's godfather.*

My name is Liza, and I'm a big fan of Gershwin songs. People are always thinking I'm Liz or Lisa....But I'm not. I'm Liza.  So when I found this song in an old songbook, I was thrilled. All my life, people have been getting my name wrong, but my favorite songwriters, the Gershwin brothers, got it right:)
