I'm not even going to pretend to have a full understanding of this situation. But the last I checked Israel is the fourth most power military on the planet, and you don't need to blow the hell out of non-combatants in order to defend yourself. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't much of Israel owned by Palestinians prior to 1948? Why is there a constant need to extend Israeli borders? This looks very much like Manifest Destiny to me. Isn't colonization a crime of war?

Uh, no. Actually, when Hamas was elected and proposed a ceasefire to Israel, it's the Israelis who decided rather to punish the population for having conducted elections, by starving them to death. Then Hamas started firing rockets to protest.
