  • this may be one of the most perfect songs ever written and if you did not pick up the album in 76, you never would have heard it. Never on the radio. In three and a half minutes and less than 300 words, he strikes emotional chords which would take thousands of words in a novel, and probably the novel would not work as well as this song. And no one ever sang his songs as well as did Warren (no not even Linda Ronstat). The world is better for his having been here and less now that he is gone.

  • Zevon was a brilliant lyricist and I never fully appreciated his fantastic musical abilitiy until he was gone. I heard this song was about the mother of his son, Jordan. Any truth to that rumor? I've lived a long time, but never heard the term "French Inhaler" used for fellatio. And I AM a cancer survivor who is learning to enjoy every sandwich.

  • Toooo good! I want more:)

  • I agree with all the positive comments on this song. As good as this posted version is, I prefer the live solo version on his "Sleep When I'm Dead" collection.

Not sure about "French Inhaler" as a term for fellatio. It doesn't quite make sense in the context of the song. In any case, I miss Warren. I've always been a big fan of singer-songwriters, and he was one of the greatest.

  • @seancimoch on this one? The Eagles basically

  • "So Long Norman" That's not a good thing. Great in the original format, but more realistic in the live later versions. Realistic more later.

  • I think that about 1000 of the of the views on this song can be attributed to me. I love Warren it's such a shame he was taken from us so early.

  • @theboomchasers Ive played this song for years on stage and thought the same thing. He replaced Warren with Norman. It was about his ex Tullie. Read his biography. Best book Ive ever read.

  • @TheBricebo Very well put. This song is the hardest song that I play on piano, and the most enjoyable, It's the 2nd song I warm up with when I practice. It its one of the greatest pieces of music Ive ever heard and Im'm proud that I've pulled it off well a few times at concerts. Do you realize who is singing back ups?

  • @jfklebba I like to think of a French maid without a gag reflex.

  • @TheBricebo Agreed.
