This WW 2 story focuses on a group of US Marines as they invade the island of Guadalcanal in the South Pacific in 1942 and struggle against the Japanese for control of the island. Good acting from a top-notch cast that includes Preston Foster, Anthony Quinn, William Bendix, Richard Jaeckel, Richard Conte and Lloyd Nolan.
One of my favorite war movies when I was a kid. That was before I found out war isn't so happy go lucky.

Guadalcanal, iwo Jima, Midway, Anzio, Okinowa, the Hertgen Forest, Omaha Beach. Don't dare tell me Americans can't fight just because they choose to keep casualties to a minimum. No, i'm not an America.

Actor Richard Jaeckel was about 17 when he made this film and I think he played a 17 year old marine. If I remember correctly he was shot by a sniper. I think he got it in the belly, but survived.

Guadalcanal Diary was rated as one of the most historically correct W W ll movies ever made. Only 3 things were found incorrect. Jap snipers were never in trees: there were 3 survivors on the beach when a Marines went to accept the surrender of Japs and the sinking of a Jap sub, I for get what wasn't accurate about it. Moflo, the war in the pacific was a race war in case you daddy or grandfather didn't mention it to you. The movie Thin Red Line all BS fiction., read the book instead

Probably the funniest war movie I've ever seen...so comical, so racist, such a propaganda film its hilarious! Want a good time? Watch this film and then "The Thin Red Line," that's if you have like 10 hours to kill.
