Stand with Fort Chipewyan hosted Mr. Andrew Nikiforuk for an open discussion regarding the concerns of Fort Chipewyan residents and potential solutions on November 4, 2009. Mr. Nikiforuk is an award winning journalist and author, who has won numerous awards (Governor General, Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy, W.O Mitchell Book Prize, Rachel Carson Environment Book Award, etc) and has appeared in Maclean's, Walrus, and even Al Jazeera. An expert on oil sands development and having investigated the Fort Chipewyan issue first hand, Mr. Nikiforuk brings a wealth of information and insight on the topic.
@jcmjelve 1) exposed by whom 2) which newspapers quoted these government organizations? 3) o'connor has been fully vindicated 4) maybe if alberta and canada focused some attention on cleaner, sustainable alternative energies and less on being a petrostate, the "economic damage" which "cannot be undone" would not be so bleak.

kudos to Nikiforuk and others who are incredibly courageous in offering critical information in a province that actively propagates very rigid information regarding industrial degradation.

After this lecture, Andrew was exposed as being an activist propogandist who wanted the entire oilsands industry shut down. He would want this even if the bogus story about prolific cancer rates in Ft.Chip didn't exist. And in the last 2 days the newspapers quote Health Canada and the Alberta Cancer Board as saying that Dr.O'Connor lied to the community and the press about the numbers of rare cancers, how many died and how, and not doing proper diagnoses. The economic damage cannot be undone.
