This is before the digger died completely - lost hydraulic drive forwards and backwards. Electrical fault.

You will see the jacks, we were fixing the rail top, to make it level from the start point to the end point.

  • The job we were doing was to replace the points to 3 and 4 road with a pair of new 70lb turnouts. The original turnouts were 55lb and had been in use for many years.We are copying Kiwirail practice of using ''digger'' to tamp the ballast under the rails. The job took our very small track gang a few months to complete.

  • Cool! Were they doing track maintanance because of the tree falling in the Fernleigh depot rail yard?
