"Maryland, my Maryland" is the official state song of Maryland.
The poem was a result of events at the beginning of the American Civil war.
President Lincoln ordered to bring troops to Washington.
Many soldiers came from Baltimore , many of them symphathyzed wiht confederate ideas, especially at Baltimore.

This makes me proud to live in Little America. :) When I found out that Maryland was called that, I remember bursting with pride that the little state I lived in had such a wonderful name. I was so happy that our state of Maryland had the name of our country in its nickname.
