Her "Academy Award" winning role from "Sayonara," and several other portrayals. She's delightful, and unforgettable! From former Indigo1045!

  • I first saw Miyoshi Umeki in 1961 when my parents took me to the movies; the film was "Flower Drum Song". I was six years old and I vividly remember two things: Nancy Kwan as Linda Lo singing "I Enjoy Being a Girl" and Miyoshi Umeki as the picture bride/illegal immigrant singing "A Hundred Million Miracles", I was so sad to hear of Miss Umeki's passing - she made a tremendous impact with the few films in which she starred (she was never a featured performer in any of the films!)

  • @oldflix4me Thanks so very much for your mention! As you'd noted, Ms. Umeki was never a star in any of her films but, to me, her abilities, gentle beauty and presence often stole the thunder on-screen from the other performers. She's sorely missed.

  • Some people touch you by their gentleness and kindness... besides Miyoshi Umeki, only Audrey Hepburn comes to mind in this regard. Wonderful video, Varadero.

  • @TatarInExile Thanks so very much TatarInExile! You're right in your comment about the 2 actresses. There was something almost ethereal about their characters, appearance, and selected roles in film. Delighted you enjoyed this!

  • @Velocity9s I've done my homework! I'm very familiar with the work of Edith Head, but, though I've tried, I can't find any reference to her having been connected with this particular film. Only a suggestion, but I think this may well have been merely a kind message sent by Ms. Umeki to a friend named "Edith." If you find something to the contrary, please let me know! Thanks again for having noticed!

  • @varadero1839 Thanks for the responce as well as this video. However, I was refering to image 3:20-ish. Note the signature in the upper left of the photo of Miss Miyoshi Umeki. Edith Head was a famous costume designer of that Hollywood era.

  • @auntbecky hi auntbecky, and thanks for your comment on Ms. Umeki! She not only won the Academy Award, but was a "winner" in all aspects!

  • I really enjoyed this video. Such a talented lady. So sweet too. Probably TV's most underated substitute mother. I'll always love her.

  • @Velocity9s To Edith? I'm sorry Velocity9s. I can't find the name "Edith" anywhere here among the comments. Possibly someone placed it, then later removed it? Either way, I hope you liked what you saw! Thanks for your message.
