Jensen Harris from the Office 2007 design team gave a very rare presentation at Microsoft's MIX08.

Farewell, menus and toolbars! Come hear the behind-the-scenes story of how the 2007 Office Ribbon user interface was imagined, designed, and validated. See never-before-shown early prototypes, hear about mistakes we learned from during the design process, and find out the principles of user experience design we used each step of the way in creating the first totally new user interface for Office.

  • @packoftwenty You can only pull down one drop-down menu at a time, so what the hell is your problem?

  • @packoftwenty It's people like you who need to be banned from the Internet. People who have nothing to say except "Mr. X is a douchebag asshole". The internet needs to overcome people like you.

  • @ckannan90 Thanks for your brilliant, helpful response... What "rage" are you talking about? Telling the truth about a bunch of idiots who work for Microsoft, and waste MILLIONS of hours of people lives, through bad UI design?

  • @packoftwenty Hahah. It doesn't really matter whether I do, I think you're entitled to your opinion regardless. I'm just really amused that you've commented on almost every single part of this video series over the course of the last year, and you hate it with this much vengeance. Need to find a better channel for your rage, bro.

  • Seriously - 'The Configurator' starting from around 7:00 - just says it all. It proves beyond any doubt that the user interface designers (or tossers, as I prefer to call them) at Microsoft, are a bunch of complete idiots - self absorbed idiots to boot. "Only certain features would be available in each session." "Only the features that you would need from each menu would show up". Brilliant! Way to go! Why not hide everything and get your PC to telepathically read your mind instead. Assholes.

  • @ckannan90 Thanks for your brilliant, constructive comment. Let me guess - you are one of the thick people who actually LIKE 'The Ribbon'.

  • @packoftwenty lol, are you alright?

  • You can get MS Office 10 for free now!

    download blinks . C [] M

  • "The Configurator" from 7:00 onwards - Jesus H.Christ - that just takes the biscuit. I wonder how much time and money these cretins wasted on this stupid idea, and they actually produced a working version of it! Why didn't they just have ONE button in the middle of the screen, and every time you pressed it, it would show you a completely random command, and eventually, by pressing it hundreds of time, you would get the one you wanted!

God, I hope I haven't given them any ideas...

    DOUCHEBAGS.

  • And we can then see how STUPID these latte suckers are, when we get to 7.00 onwards. Like - who in their right mind would even SUGGEST ANY of those STUPID interface ideas? I'll tell you who - a bunch of overpaid, self congratulating latte sipping TOSSERS who should never be let near a computer, let alone be allowed to force the rest of us to use their shit ideas. Look at 7.50 - 'fluid menus' - "fluid menus were about a FEELING" - ASSHOLE!

What a bunch of idiots. This is embarrasing.
