Danner Expert Overhaul - Scout Body Dip

You never know what you'll find when you strip the paint of a car that's old enough to remember Watergate. After sitting overnight in a dip tank, we hoisted the tub out and pressure washed off the original paint scheme to uncover pristine U.S. steel. We knew we had a clean rig, but we did expect to come across some corrosion and body work. And sure enough, we found a little of both. But considering how long she'd been in service and storage, the damage was minimal. We knew when we pulled the tub off the frame there was no major damage histroy as the frame was true--though it would be a chore to rack a Scout's beefy frame rail. Looks like we've got a winner.

from what I understand It'll take everything off(They use the same solution to clean engine blocks In machine shops), Which is both good and bad depending on how many areas that you cant put paint back into. Media blasting can trapp media inside body panels and cause Re-rusting later. sanding has its limitations, but is made up for by availiablity. Older cars can Benfit more from dipping as they accumulate more "stuff" That may need to be completely romoved

Interesting information video-

I prefer the very slow method of hand and machine sanding of body panels because-

A.) I don't own all those special tanks and chemicals.

B.) Intial HAND sanding allows you to feel the condition of the metal: thin and weak or thick and strong, as I go along.

C.) Hand or machine sanding allows you to keep the vehicle intact; you need not remove glass, wiring etc.

Here in Australia, we don't "salt" our roads as snow only exists in the mountains.
