A severe storm disrupts the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and destroys several yachts.

This is not my video and it belongs to the National Geographic Society under the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

  • Having grown up rightly seeing National Geographic as the reference standard for documenting people, places and events, it is sad seeing some of the stuff carrying their name now. This is much better than some of the stuff I've seen on their cable channel. The scientific, dispassionate professionals who showed me the world through their photo essays would be rolling in their graves seeing what is being "branded" National Geographic nowadays.

  • Just finished reading "Knockdown" by Martin Dugard and all I can say is WOW what a frightening situation those sailors where in.

    Cheers for posting this

  • I love this show. Definitely one of the better shows on National Geographic (especially since Air Crash Investigation now apparently no longer airs on NatGeo). Thnx so much for uploading, @02Tony! VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! :)

  • Switcaroo12 the book "Fatal Storm" by Rob Mundle is much better than "Knockdown". Knockdown had added too much BS about what people who died were thinking, nobody would know. Rob books are based on interviews and facts, he was a news man covering the race.

  • @hogey74

the television channel is owned by Murdoch. The magazine is owned by the actual nat geo society, and continues to publish "dispassionate" photo essays. It's just the telly station that's entertainment rubbish.

  • i watched this a long time ago
