Dexter is a neutered male 2-3 year old cattle dog who is up for adoption through Starfish to the Sea Animal Rescue. He is about 40lbs and is lean--could use some added muscle, but I suspect that will come with more exercise. He is currently located in Pittsburgh, PA.
He is a very energetic boy who is just now learning how to live in a house and be a part of an active family. He is one of the most happy animals I have ever met... it doesn't seem like anything gets him down. He LOVES other dogs (and is always super excited to say hello), he has done well with the three resident dog-savvy cats, and has been friendly to all people he's met (I haven't seen him with kids yet).
He is a pretty green dog and needs some training but so far he's loved clicker training and is doing a great job. He has some typical cattle dog quirks and could benefit from a home that is familiar with the breed (or other herding dogs)--though it's not mandatory. He is very high energy but doesn't seem to be overly drivey....though his toy drive and play drive is continuing to increase.
He's been exposed to the disc and we are building value for the disc and drive for the game. He's got mad hops and may be a fun disc dog potential--he's not yet a performance dog prospect but we'll see how his drive comes along.
His ideal home would be a very active home where he will get daily walks, daily running/playing in the yard, regular hiking or other tiring activity. He may enjoy agility or disc training as well. A home with another playful dog (or access to another playful dog) would make his day (he really does LOVE other dogs).
