Bassmaster Elite Series pro and popular TV fishing personality Shaw Grigsby shows us how to tie a knot with fluorocarbon line that won't cut itself when you set the hook (a common problem with fluoro). We filmed this at the 2010 Bassmaster Classic. Next week, look for more from Shaw at the 2011 Classic.

  • Nice knot. It looks like it's a doubled up version of the San Diego jam knot. I've been using the single version for heavy braid. Will give this a try for both braid and fluoro.

  • Great knot !!

  • Shaw, Would you wrap more than 3 times if using 6_8# Florocarbon?

    Thanks !!

  • This knot is basically a Reverse Clinch Knot. Only difference is you double up the line. That is all.

Now, unlike the video if you actually use a weighted lure, you can hold the loop end of the line instead of a hook like in the video and free spin the lure around the line to speed up your knot tying speed.

  • Was having trouble with Fluoro breaking at my knots. Saw this video, and started using this knot, have had zero trouble since. Thanks Shaw

  • Minus the doubling up, this is the first knot my dad taught me 25 years ago. It is very, very strong. He always called it "The Fisherman's Knot". It's alot easier and faster if you leave a little more tag line and just swing your hand around and under the bait/hook for your loops though.
