4 billion years of evolution is not easily overcome, but human history is littered with examples of individuals who said, "No", to their inner ape, their instincts. It can be done. The trick is to SEE it first. Then you can resist.
If you want to punch someone in the face for knocking your beer over, thy name be Trevor. If you want to punch someone because you're bored you may as well wear a monkey suit. If you believe all the priest says and don't wanna think for yourself, it's not a coincidence that Trevor feels the same. If your heart is broken and you want your abusive ex-boyfriend or abusive ex-girlfriend back, that's Trevor messing with you. He'll do anything, torture you if necessary, to get you to multiply (doesn't feel like that's what's going on, but Trevor's clever like that). The first step to easing a problem is admitting there IS a problem. And it's name is often "Trevor".

A comment that sums up what I was trying to say in just a few words.
macnutz "The more I learn, the more I think and reason, the weaker Trevor becomes. You can't kill Trevor, but you can become your own master."

  • @rusty2029 You're NOT a troll (I watched the thoughtful "The Passion of the Atheist" vid you made) but your comment sounds mindless. Perhaps you REALLY don't understand. Only you know if you are an honest man, but if you are, I have to say, your current comprehension skills are poor. "All have in their hearts the knowledge..." That proves you don't understand the first thing about atheism. You judge what you don't understand...at all (after years of supposedly trying).

  • @philhellenes Pt2. I am basing the inner knowledge of God on Alvin Plantingas "Properly Basic Belief in God" You can go to a website called the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. Look for "Coherentist Theories of Epistemic Justification" and it will help. Also look for "Pragmatic Arguments and Belief in God" You may find help there for your own views. So if I have done some intellectual due diligence for the reasoning behind my statements of pity where is the incoherence?

  • @rusty2029 Do you believe in Santa?

  • @philhellenes --Do you believe in Santa? My dad told me at 5yrs old that there was no Santa. But the Santa-syndrome atheist thinks this is a good strawmam. If you are going to debate people deal in proper categories of being and the nature of those beings entailed to be in a proper category. I have to presume you have been into the fairy dust if you think the question is valid when it comes to the proposition of God. Do brownies hide your keys when you lose them? Answer that question.

  • @rusty2029 Oh dear. You are not the honest man I thought you were. Goodbye.

  • mind monkey = ego

  • So right!

Instincts are the biggest obstacle to intelligence.

    Ethology is science to learn!

If you know yourself enough, you must admit everything about that video.

    DONT`BE PRIMAL, JUST BE HUMAN!

  • It is rumored that the pope's monkey is King Kong.

  • Does anyone know the music to this video?

  • two years ago I had a similar revelation. I began to question tradition, and went from the darkness of Christianity to rational, fact based atheism. I only wish that I was born in 4000 ad when, hopefully, the entire world would have had the same realization.

  • @BrainGuy45 ..thank You. I've watched "This remarkable thing" already and Love it!! I've got my evening cut out for me!! ;)

  • @unascertainable Alan Watts is not the narrator. The narrator of this video is the man behind this youtube channel, philhellenes. Please watch his other videos because, although I agree that this is "epically beautiful", YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET!

  • @deernardz It's philhellenes, the owner of this channel.

  • *wipes away tears*

    ..this is epically beautiful. -3

—I've listened to a lot of spoken word things by Alan Watts and if I'm not mistaken this is him too.
