I think that the best players of Villa-Lobos are the Brazilians guitarists, like Turibio Santos, the Duo Assad or Badi Assad, but the interpretation of Xufei Yang is quite good. The only problem is the audio of the video.

I saw it in a movie festival here in Brazil. It's also a shame to me. Villa-Lobos is less known around here... The same as other great composers...

I unfortunately have not heard Villa-Lobos played them. is there a recording somewhere out there with these? I would do anything for them.

However, Yang just breezes over musical ideas and rubatos. If you want to hear real recordings of Villa-Lobos etudes, watch Giulio Tampalini on here, or get my personal favorite, David Leisner.

What a joke! Her playing isn't quite my cup of tea but it surely is not her fine instrument alone that makes her an excellent player...it's called hard work and dedication. And jargenlink thinks Eliot Fisk with his ascot is a great player? HA. Puhlease...

I find this Villa Lobos to be rushed in many parts. But at least that flaw is one of the easier ones to fix. But she's young and may mellow out with age.
