Rafflesia is the largest flower in the world. It takes up to 15 months from bud to fully bloom but only lasts 5 to 7 days. The diameter of the flower can be as wide as a meter . This flower was taken at 6 July 2009 in the forest near poring hot springs , Mt kinabaru, Sabah.
Thank goodness it doesn't last that long, cause phew!

Hi. I am a writer doing some research on this flower. Can you please tell me when it starts to smell? Is there an odor before it blooms? Can you tell me if there are flies as soon as it blooms or do the flies, mainly blowflies come only after it dies? Do they lay eggs in the flower? Is there any food for them in the flower, like nectar? or are the flies just deceived? Sorry to bother you with these questions, but reliable information on rafflesia is terribly hard to find. Thank you
