A series of works by the South African artist Marlene Dumas with a solo piano score written and performed by yours truly Alex Wilson.

This is the type of unusual and exciting project that stimulates me as a musician. I was given the DVD with no sound beforehand and asked to prepare piano pieces for each artist. On the day of the recording, I was in the studio Steinway in front of me and TV monitor screen to my right and the record button pressed ! Here you can experience the results.

The works were exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery and filmed for Astra, director Tony Salmon

  • Thank you for your marvelous music accompaniment to this wonderful artist work. I saw her exhibition at the MoMA in NYC for the first time, and I am hooked, We have discussed her work at the salon at length and I am sending this video to all of our members. I love your composition, it is perfect for this video.

  • Very pleased to receive positive feedback. It is the first project of this kind I have done but would love to do more ! My experience in the studio I imagine was similar to the musicians who played along to the silent movies in days gone by .... Alex

  • i love ur music Alex!

  • These images are of poor quality but her work is one of my favorites.

  • I have three songs that I also wrote from paintings. here is one of them.

  • nice work Alex. you read her work great!

  • Well done it worked perfectly.

  • This brought so much extra emotion to the images and I find her work truly powerful as it is! Thank you. It has a slightly Eastern European feel to it if you don't mind me saying, reminds me of something Czech then again some Norwegian too. I could listen to this all night. Thank you.

  • I feel much more dramatism in her works-sometimes even tragedy-than this music suggests to me

  • thank you for posting this!your music is really amazing together with her paintings..i just discovered her in pinakotek modern art in Munich, she s great
