"Maggie May" ist von seinem dritten Album "Every Picture Tells A Story". Die Single sowie auch das Album erreichten in den USA und in UK Platz 1 der Charts. Ron Wood (Faces, Jeff Beck Group, Rolling Stones) unterstützte Stewart bei der Komposition der Lieder für die ersten Solo-Alben. Bei manchen Songs übernahmen die Faces die musikalische Begleitung.
