Hi I would recommend SE - that way you are not sinking all your $ into AVID and will be able to choose / try other great systems / software out there as well.
If you are predominantly music based then AVID may not be the way to go at all
- it is primarily an audio recording / editing / mixing environment trying to catch up
with the main music production software out there already!
- definitely try the 'lite' versions of Cubase / Ableton / Logic Pro / Reason etc. first!
PS as a composer I am a big Reason and Logic Pro user and I have to say AVID could sure learn something about customer service from Propellerhead who make Reason.
When it came to upgrading to Reason 6 they gave all their customers a few weeks to upgrade
at WHATEVER PRICE THE CUSTOMERS THOUGHT WAS FAIR!!
So you could upgrade and pay as little as $1 or if you so desired....
This is a great Swedish philosophy and has earned Propellerhead some lifetime customers
I don't know much about pro-tools being an FL 9 user myself... Does pro-tools use similar VST's as FL? Nexus? Komplete? East west symphonic orchestra etc... ? Does pro tools also work on PC? I'm on windows 7 64 bit...
This looks pretty promising, I'm finding FL too slow, FL 10 was terrible. I hated the play list on it.
Thanks for this video, was inspiring. I might pick this up if it's worth it.
@neilmacmusic I'm referring to the full hd systems with racks for processing power, I haven't seen anything that rivals that studio setup

@115breno
Pro Tools is a completely different linear way of working compared to the almost organic Ableton environment
and certainly nowhere near as MIDI friendly

Hi - it's a bit like Apple - almost all AVID resellers are locked into set pricing...

The AVID MBox is pretty good but for more features
also look closely at the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 and the MOTU 4 Pre

Agree - it really boils down to who has the best marketing campaigns! And that's usually the ones with the most $

I love Pro Tools and have used it in TV and Film Post since it began as Sound Designer way back.
Digidesign were a cool company - I'm still on the fence about AVID
In April I updated my home MBox2Pro Factory/DV Toolkit2 PTools8 system.
I bought the (fantastic) Digi Eleven Rack which sadly only came with PTools 8
so i upgraded to PTools9 and Complete Prod. Toolkit for approx. $500
All was good until AVID just announced Pro Tools10 at an upgrade for me of a further $295!!
AVID that just sucks
