Purchase and use a CO MONITOR when heating a small enclosed area like a tent. CO can kill you. Your devices need to be in good working order and you need to know how they work. Heating the Arctic Oven, an insulated tent from Alaska Tent and Tarp. I have had this one since 2001 but find it too warm with the wood stove even at -40!. Here is some work we did to see how alternate heating devices work.

Yes.. I am still trying to figure out how to best heat this tent. A small wood stove requires constant tending and a large one must be throttled down so much it becomes inefficient. The little buddy is not a bad choice nor is the Optimus 111. I use to have a small Swedish double wick stainless steel kerosene heater that worked very well. I sold it before buying this tent and haven't seen another one since. I'll find the perfect solution eventually I hope. For now the Little Buddy will do.

In use the whole tent acts like a chimney. Hot air rises and goes out the top 3" vent. Fresh replacement air is drawn in the bottom vent. If your device was improperly running and out-gassing run-away CO it might overwhelm this however. CO has similar density to regular air and enough could hang around to cause trouble. Even with a wood stove a CO monitor is likely a good idea. I am going to pick one up.

Some folks have expressed cation about the possibility of CO in an enclosed space. This seems sensible to me. Use a portable monitor to check your own heating devices. They can be had for 30.00 or so.
