In 1993, Australia were given a modest total of 186 to win the 4th Test at Adelaide, which would have given them a 2-nil lead in the 5 Test series. After moving to 54 with 2 wickets down, Mark Waugh fell and that triggered a collapse. Australia lost 5 wickets in just 20 runs, leaving a further 112 required with only 3 wickets in hand. But they didn't give up - debutant Justin Langer helped the tail through to 144 before losing his wicket. 42 required with Tim May and Craig McDermott at the crease. They put on a partnership of 40 before McDermott was cruelly dismissed with Australia only 1 run behind on the scoreboard.

  • At exactly 1:42 you see the ball get much closer to the bat than you would assume at first glance. Six things:

    1. The ball was close enough to the bat to get an edge consistent with the direction of the ball

    2. There was definitely the sound of a deflection

    3. The wicket keeper and surrounding fielders were absolutely convinced there was an edge

    4. The batsman offerered no protest

    5. The umpire IMMEDIATELY signalled the dismissal

    6. No post game protests by australian players

  • hit the helmet - nowhere near the bat!
