Why SUBSCRIBE to The Classical Music Appreciation Show (CMAS)?

Episodes feature a LIVE performance of a piece of classical music, with the goal to hopefully educate/inspire people who are new to classical music and entertain people who are already classical music appreciators. Heck, if you like the performance enough, you can even download the MP3 at http://shop.rawpp.com (search "Chopin"). And share the show with your friends too!

EPISODE III: Encores, Part I

With the dwindling attention span of audiences today, the average iPod is dominated by two-minute pop songs. But what if everyone in the world had at least one two-minute classical tune thrown in the mix too? That's not too much to ask, right? This two-minute Étude could counter any argument that "classical music is boring".

FRÉDÉRIC CHOPIN (1810-1849)

To download the MP3 of this live performance of the 4th Etude of Chopin's Twelve Etudes (Book I), visit http://shop.rawpp.com and search "Chopin". (Part of proceeds go to well-known causes furthering both human and animal rights.)

But for now, enjoy the fourth Etude (a French word meaning "Study" in English) of Chopin's first set of 12 Etudes (Op. 10).

  • Remarkably clear, it's apparent he knows the piece inside and out. However, slowing the tempo down that much takes much of the virtuoso characteristic out of the etude. I would have liked to have heard it played faster.

  • @DLGulick Thanks for your thoughtful comment! Every pianist has their own interpretation though... Sure I could've played it fast, but in general, I don't like it when pieces are played too fast that it detracts from the musicality.

  • slow, yes but still good

  • @fierydog Thanks! Every pianist has their own interpretation!

  • @pedro2000pe Ray Arthur Wang

  • @emilgilliam What is his name of the classical music pianist?

  • sabeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Ray, you are one super-talented and musically mature virtuoso. It's been a pleasure to follow your career since I moved to California. And hurrah for adding to the body of high-quality free (and legal!) classical music on the web.
