  • Dan, is the ring you leave below the lip for decoration or to strengthen an area that would be weak if fully drawn up?

    Thanks.

  • It's purely for a decorative effect.

Although a thicker band will help with stability of the pot if you're messing about with it like this.

    Cheers,Dan

  • Hi Dan, I am very interested in the bat system you use. Could you tell me more about it? And I love your soup bowls!

    Thank you Karen in CT

  • Hi,simply homemade bats made of a vinyl/resin material.

On the wheelhead are 2 metal pegs,1 in the edge and 1 in the middle.

Then drill 2 holes in the bat to correspond to the pegs and you just sit the bat on the pegs and the suction of the water on the wheelhead keeps it from lifting up.

  • How long have you been throwing?

  • About 15 years.

  • do you high fire some of your stuff?

  • Grr i hate you!!!(jealousy) thats wierd how it looks off center but they come out amazingly perfectly each time

  • Is your nick name "the machine" because you're whipping bowls out like one. Holy cow....almost everything I do on the wheel is an accident.

  • okay the move where you make the cylinder shape shrink into a bowl shape is got damned impossible

  • Dan, what is the weight of this ball of clay in grams/ounces? I am guessing 3/4 - 1 lb. Thanks!

  • That was pretty amazing. What kind of wheel do you use? Thanks for sharing these videos. You are more helpful than my pottery teacher!

  • do you get to keep what you make?

  • I live in Ingleton =D

  • @scott1235ut 100% agree with your comment. As beginner, wonder how can the single speed work to pull the clay up... In need to slow down the speed.

  • when i do it that fast with that much water my pots open up ...

    why is that?
