  • Nice video! I hate to disagree about the DHCP issue but you can have more than one DHCP server for Fault Tolerance with the 80/20 or the 50/50 rule. You have to have 2 different scopes like 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.128 and 192.168.1.129-192.168.1.253. This is a very common practice in case one DHCP server goes down. Again great video and Thumbs up!

  • @TheMadFlea This is corrected and I am talking about you can not have more then one DHCP server on your network with the same scope of address's. And what you point out would work but as the KISS rule applies you would really just want one. We do always have a backup VM running on our ESX that is ready for us to brig up if the DHCP ever drops. Thanks for the positive comments and have a great day.

  • Hi, nice videos!!!Thank you.

I have a question about server 2008 domain name....My domain name on the server is the same of the domain name on the internet......example: soccer.com....client have difficulty to log on sometimes to the server .....Is it possible to reconfigure the domain name on the server like soccer.lan ?What step do i have to do reconfigure the server?

Do i need to reinstall the DNS controller?

Thank you for your time, much appreciated..

    Dan

  • @danjazzhot Yes NEVER use a domain name that is for a web site. You are naming your INTERNAL DOMAIN. Now a WEB DOMAIN. So when your people go to log on they are going out over the Internet over millions of miles looking for your server on your network. You will need to DEMOTE the server the PROMOTE it. Thanks for the kind comments.

  • @42technoman I own a .com, what happens if i set the nameservers of my .com to my dns server?

  • @ENETWORK3 You clients may take up to 20 minutes to log into your server. Never use a outside DNS number for your servers and always point your clients to your internal DNS. Also never use your registered domain name for your controller.

Great questions. Also I am getting a new online class ready to teach how to setup and maintain Windows 2008 R2.

  • Sorry but i just got lost. I have a VPS and i want to point my domains to it. How should i do it?

  • Very nice video.

  • GOOD VIDEO!!!

  • Can you do a video on reverse dns. Show things like what info you need when you call your isp. What you need when you call your registrar. This video was pretty helpful, but I was just put in charge of a pre-existing network that is having reverse dns lookup issues, and getting blacklisted from a few large dns servers. This causes email to be delayed or fail to deliver. It has been a real headache.

  • brilliant video

  • @42technoman
