A clip previously uploaded by GEMINITREKKER (Thank you!) showing the inside of the mothership and what actually happens to Roy once he steps inside.
I do not own this clip or this movie and do not profit from it in any way. All rights to the original creators of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".

  • So why didnt they turn everyone else into an alien? Or did they just change them back to human when they dropped them off?

  • @RickLowerboy84 That's what I concluded.

  • He wasn't turned into an alien. The aliens took him and in return, they give the humans an alien, the alien you see doing the hand motions.

  • @StapleGunMS Oh, really? So that's why at 4:50 you see the alien return to the ship? Wrong, try again.

  • @Ovrkyl And you're under the impression he was... *cough* turned into an alien?

  • @StapleGunMS *cough*Yes.*cough*

  • This scene just doesn't fit with the "mystery" of the original release. It's awful. Kinda like when George Lucas ruined Star Wars with all the updated effects...

  • @StapleGunMS I think the alien that comes out is just saying thank you or some alien equivalent and doing the funny hand waving to say he understands - you can see him walking back into the spacecraft

  • much better ending....

  • many of us who see the versions without the "inside" scene come here to see the missing part, however this video is too blurry to tell anything. is there a better quality video anywhere? i've never seen this scene before, i'd like to see it in full detail.

  • I have to say I genuinely believe that whether or not you like this scene depends on which version you see first. I saw the special edition first and can't understand why people dislike the extra mothership internal scene - to me it's just another cinematic crescendo. It's not as if you see very *much* of the inside... It's also a bit strange to criticise it for being special effects given that most of this this movie's key scenes are dialogue-free special effects sequences! I think it fits.

  • @TheIncredibleWahoo -yes. It's a reference to a scene earlier in the movie when Roy tries to convince his family to go and see disney's Pinnochio, I think. He sings it to them.

  • @Christopher89123 - I think I'd mostly just find that upsetting.

  • This was shot for Close Encounters the Special Edition released in 1980. You can see the change in continuity in Dreyfuss's appearance.

  • So that's what the inside of ESPN really looks like...huh

  • @Ovrkyl *cough* have you seen the documentary *cough*

  • @Ovrkyl

Doesn't make much sense when you think about it. That bright light at 3:14 was probably just to transition to the scene where the alien waves goodbye.

  • It sucks they cut this out...its a great scene...I always wanted to know what he saw inside the ship. This will always be a great movie.
