This is the 9th investment that has been poured for a commission I have been working on for the past year. It is a 3/4 life sized sculpture of a cougar that will be installed in the atrium of New Prairie Middle School in New Carlisle, IN.
Sure..the investment was made by using products one can purchase at many building supply dealers: Light weight expandable metal lathe formed into a cylinder, tar paper wrapped around the cylinder and secured with a rope for use as a barrier to keep liquid investment contained. GW moulding plaster, fine silica sand and of course water are the prime ingredients.
If surface detail is a concern, I begin the investment by brush applying an initial layer of jeweler's commercial investment to the exterior of the wax sculpture. At Fire Arts we have a series of standard containers that we use to proportionately mix the correct ratios of plaster and sand to water.
Lovely video. Could you tell us what the investment itself is made of.
