i saw a welding video where the guy used hydrochloric acid to clean the parts before a weld taking it down to bare metal then rinsed it off with water. this might help speed up the process for cleaning up the parts before paint and what-not.

those tongs are for heat treating smaller blades so that when you get the huge tongs until glowing they keep the back of the blade hot when your cooling it and allows you to cool only the edge giving you a good hard edge and a springy back.

the best taping fluid is rocol it is like a grease and increases tool life by 80% heheh
