DSE works in partnership with catchment management authorities all over the state to encourage and provide financial incentives for landholders to manage land that runs alongside rivers and streams.
Fencing is an important part of protecting riparian land (the land alongside a river or stream) and waterways as it prevents stock from damaging and polluting these areas.
Farmers benefits from better quality drinking water for stock, more vegetation to provide shade and fewer incidents of animals trapped in waterways or escaping.
Landholders should contact their local CMA to find out about funding assistance available to help them protect the waterways on their land.
