@flappybird11 I think its an awesome radio for the price AS LONG as you buy an external antenna, 27 MHz tends to want to bounce on all objects including the atmosphere so you NEED an external antenna so the radio signal don't bounce around in your car/ house/ garage/ etc.

I just purchased a cobra road trip HH38WXST and having exact same issue when while using the mag mount antenna it came with. I barely get any signal, any feedback is greatly appreciated!

@hightech80 Well if you plan on talking far distances than I suggest getting a base or a mobile antenna instead of using the included Rubber Ducky antenna, I heard alot of good reviews on the a-99 base antenna, I heard that when conditions are good you could talk from NY to Mexico otherwise with the a-99 base antenna will only let you transmit about 7 miles, the rubber ducky antenna will only allow you to transmit about a mile if your lucky, Hope this helps! -Jerod

I used to have an OLD Pace 23 channel base, and had a 20 ft pole mount on top of my house (I was around 10 at the time 16 now) I used to catch skip all the time/ talk :)

Loved every minute of it! Don't let these hobbies go!

@NowLifeStarts: LOL You're so mean...but it is true. They love CB'ing out of their cars alot! One thing that irritates me is that they repeat the same line over and over for 5 minutes, and using only 2 sentences lol.

I figured out the problem, the magnet mount antenna which was included with cb, uses vehicle entire rooftop to amplify signal. Everytime I mounted antenna, I placed it at rear of roof or angle towards driver. When I placed magnet mount antenna dead center of roof, my signal increased 75%! I did here there are better antennas and if your looking for greater range, especially for home use, get yourself a home base antenna. Do not use rubber duck antenna unless you know someone to use it withi

I have one of these picks up skip pretty good when conditions are well. Don't buy it if you plan on trying to shoot skip Jernito. get a nice base like a Galaxy DX 99V with directional antenna. ;)

@jernito i havent heard of a solorcon a-99 in a LONG time... i still have one sittin in my closet beggin to be used. great antenna talked to the bronx usein a GENERIC radioshack/uniden cheapo radio. shulda tested it on my dx949 =P bet it would bang out far on SSB!
