In 1991, The NJ Devils were up 3 games to 2 over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1st round. The Devils came back from 3 goals down and would have tied Game 6 (AT HOME) with this goal by Laurie Boschman. However, it was waved off by Referee Bill McCreary even though replays showed it hit Boschman's stick AFTER it hit his skate. The score stood and the Devils lost the game (and the series) 4 - 3. Pens' fans can talk about "The Save" all they want, but we talk about getting legitimately hosed. Maybe "Super" Mario Lemieux would have never won his 1st Cup if the NHL had Instant Replay in the 1991 Playoffs.

  • Dude you can't say it would have changed everything I mean maybe they would have had a better chance to win if the goal would have stood, but they could have still lost the game later.

  • @skalover517 All true, but I watched that game. After scoring the previous 2 goals, they had ALL the momentum. Then the fans proceeded to throw their hats and towels on the ice after this call, which stopped it for 10 minutes, slowing the game down. You can find it on youtube.

  • @skalover517 Of course, they could have. But when you score 3 straight goals and you're at home, I'm sorry for assuming the Devils would have had some major advantages in that case. That's the point. I just think the cards would have been too stacked against the Penguins. It was the ONLY time that Pens' team faced adversity (or an elimination game) that entire playoffs. With the Devils, they faced it twice.

  • Thanks for the memory sjcherno77. Pens fans, get over it, you all whine about so many things even though you have been lucky enough to have three of the best players of all time (Lemieux, Jagr, Crosby) in a 20-year span. There was no kicking AND the puck hit his stick on the way in. That disallowed goal could very well have saved hockey in Pittsburgh, think about it.

  • @TheSkuba7 I would add Malkin to that mix of best players. The Pirates aside, they have truly been blessed in Pittsburgh. Good comment.

  • @sjcherno77 I was there and we were all chanting BS at McCreary. I think later on in his career he made up for that bad call though.

  • I remember being at the game and what was said at Bill M I am surprised he made it off the ice!

  • what is worse is the Devils had goals go in that went through the net and the refs missed those too ... heck one may have happened in this series cuz I remember one happening vs Pitt.

  • wow thats crazy . im a pens fan and thank god for no instant replay. but this would have turned out different thats for sure. crazy... good vid

  • What if there was Instant Replay in the early 90s? The Bruins would've been Stanley Cup Champions and I could RIP. At least by 2028, after Im 50 I won't give a bleep

  • @eshu91111 How are the pens the best if they can only make it past the 1st round of the playoffs?

  • Penguins suck. The only team they could beat in the playoffs was ottawa.

  • @AnaheimDucks39 And that's why we were able to get over this. But the fact of the matter is that the Devils were still HOSED.

  • whatever, they still won 3 cups

  • It should have been a goal.
