Its immediate replacement had internal batteries and the shape of a perfume bottle or tampon inserter. In short CRAP !!! Why Sony have done this is beyond me. I want a player that has longevity. the discard and get another does not appeal to me, must be old school. My NW-E99 still works after 5 years, sounds superb and with average of 60 hrs from 1 AAA unmatchable with any new players. A spare AAA in the pocket guarantees a WEEK of 8 hr a day use no matter where you are

No need for a laptop, PC or wall socket to charge it, AAA are purchasable just about everywhere and you can carry a couple in your pocket at no great cost. It was one of the few players to have a functional masculine design too, rectangular, functional and neat, no girly curves and feminine lines. I barley had time to marvel at this fact before it was discontinued!!! Possibly the shortest production run of any player.

Trouble with ALL mp3 players produced now (unless anyone knows otherwise) is they have internal batteries, mostly non removable ones. These batteries have a finite life, maybe a year, possibly 18 months if you get an expensive player, 24 months if you are a light user. Once dead the player is useless. I have, and cherish my Sony NW-E99 as it is not only a very stylish and beautifully made player but it runs on a STANDARD AAA battery, and for an amazing 50 70 hrs.
