This species was found in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines, Sumatra, Indonesia, New Guinea, Australia, Samoa, Zanzibar, Madagascar. Since, 1998, there are total of 24 species of sesarmine crabs have been reported in Hong Kong.

Sesarmops intermedius can be kept in freshwater, brackish water, salt water. They were found in several miles Inland, mangrove forests, and along rivers. The females carry thousands of eggs in three to four weeks then release into the water.

So far, there is no report of successful bred in captivity. The larvas go through several stages, before they go ashore as young crabs.

They like all kinds of food such as potatoes, peas, apple, bananas, pears, sprouts, peppers. zucchini and turle pellet foods.
