Newport News, Virginia is located in the Hampton Roads metro area. It is on south-eastern end of the Virginia Peninsula, with the James River on its southern boundary and Skiffe's Creek northwest. With many miles of waterfront leading to the James River's mouth at Newport News Point, the city is a major part of the Hampton Roads harbor system. Newport News was originally part Warwick County. Found in 1634, Warwick County was one of the original eight shires in the ordered by King Charles I of Great Britain. The city population according to the 2010 U.S. Census was 180,719 moving it to Virginia's fifth largest incorporated city.

Newport News has an extensive residential real estate and commercial property base with Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry-dock, the U.S. Army's Fort Eustis, and other military bases and suppliers, the city's economy is intertwined with the military. Newport New provides extensive commercial real estate along the waterfront of the James River, supporting a large boating building industry with support facilities. Newport is a major link between rail and ocean going freight with the Newport News Marine Terminals. Interstate Highway 64 links Newport News with the other cities of Hampton Roads. the region is also supported by Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.

The city has a large residential community with a diverse residential real estate base. Complimented by Thomas Nelson Community College, Christopher Newport University, and a large system of advanced placement elementary and high school, the city is a mecca for family seeking excellent employment and outstanding educations for their children.
