This is an incredible yidaki made by Bruce Burrngupurrngu and painted by his wife Djul'djul Gurruwiwi. It is a specially-commissioned yidaki that is the finest of its type ever made, a masterpiece.

Burrngupurrngu's younger brother Douglas Landhuna gives this yidaki a workout. Despite being an owner of this painted design, even Douglas is spell-bound by the fineness of the artwork. Notice his silent examination of the instrument half-way through the clip... he seems as incredulous as I was when I first laid eyes on this masterpiece.

  • Yidaki mir make music western players or NTS (non traditional styles) make sound.

  • @balandaplaya There are lots of NTS players these days who make more than sound, I still prefer trad but at the same time have lots of respect for anyone who practices constantly whatever style they play.

  • man i with the camera could have paused on that artwork a little longer.

that looked to be awesome paintwork at a quick glance!

lol i left a comment a year ago i totally forgot about it. I hold my hand up to not knowing anything about this instrument and i'm not a simpleton for not knowing that... All i was saying is that (in my opinion) it was just the same thing over and over again. It didn't really change at all.

  • @sonofthedestroyer , i'm afraid you misunderstood me. i feel the same way you do. i like some contemporary players, but traditional playing is what i like best.

  • @jubitoftw ,

I look at the other way round. I think the traditional players have far greater sound and feel to their playing than contemporary foreign didge players. So it is the traditionalists who give the didgeridoo its real colour

  • @JSSV,

What a simpleton like you needs to realise that is the arnhem landers play yirdaki as a rhythmic instrument. Like a drum. Their objective is not to make as many different melodies as they can on it.

  • lol

it's like complaining that black and white photograph doesn't have enough color.

    that's their style, man.

  • hahahahahahaha love the way he stops playing and stares at the artwork! Ladies and gentlemen this is the yirdaki from heaven!
