This a small video of my Clayton Undertype Steamwagon.

  • My father has a Clayton in a fairly advanced state - I notice you can run the engine without the wheels turning. I don't think this was a feature of the original design. How did you arrange the clutch?

  • @69woodburner

I use a one way beedle bearing/clutch like used in RC helicopters for an autorotation landing.

In forward gear the bearing is locked, and the wheels will turn forward.

In reverse gear the bearing is running free.

This is not standard, but I found it very comfy to run the engine while standing still.

This gives good draugt on the fire, and the mechanical feedpump deliveres the water to the boiler in stead of the injector.

  • that looks lovely you must be very proud wish I had something like this is it coal powered?

  • @mambrozevich

Thank you for your kind words.

Yes, it is coal fired, justy for this video it was just wood.

  • is it made by u

  • yes, I made all components myself, exept for the wheels, they were purchased as castings.

Had to machine them off course.

    All took about 12 years.......

  • how much do u think one of these is worth with out the engine or boiler or pipes and stuff like that just the chassie and cab +wheels +axels+springs thanks :)

  • @johngroenen Thanks for prompt reply. So you run in reverse to operate to feed pump without moving, but in forward gear the roller clutch locks up for normal operation. Shame about reverse though, I'll have to scrach my head. Steve
