The first start of the JU-01 gas turbine

After almost two years work on the manual lathe and mill the JU-01 gas turbine is finally ready for its maiden run!

It uses 200bar compressed air for starting and I had managed to borrow two small bottles for the test, just before the last bottle ran out of air I got the engine to self sustain. The EGT started to climb after a while so I decided to abort the run and take the engine apart to see if there is something wrong, I couldn´t find any problem though so it might have been leaked oil in the casing burning off.

Nice job man!!! Have you measured the maximum thrust, and operating thrust?

@aminsterdam Thanks! Not yet, I have only had the engine up to 0.5bar P2 (boost pressure) yet and it has its max thrust at close to 3bar so there is much left. I didn´t want to stress it too much at the first start in case something would break.

The calculated max continous thrust is in the region of 550N.

Tackar! Jag har kanske hittat anledningen till den stigande avgastempen nu, baksidan på turbinhjulet har skrapat i huset när lagerhuset i aluminium expanderat av värmen. Ska svarva upp en större frigång så det inte händer nästa gång jag provkör.
