So I guess the questions are:

Why does one man's view of God have to dismiss the existance of God? Couldn't God exist but simply be far more different than religion makes "him" look? Why don't many people see that to believe in God is not always to be a traditionally religious person?

Of course, I could be way off in how I interpreted your information, and if so, lets talk about it! :)

  • you're still lacking any type of evidence, no matter what your "spirituality". possibility doesn't equal existence.

  • It's kind of funny all you ~~intellectuals~~ are completely missing the point. This video is about one thing and one thing only: that the absurd nature of the bible does not disprove God. Period. It isn't meant to be a video about what IS proof of God.

  • "...Religions really just begin to scratch the surface of what god could be if god existed..."

When you start with nothing, the possibilities are always endless. That doesn't give the notion any credibility, or make it worth spending time on. It's no better than empty philosophy, 'the contemplation of one's navel', as some put it.

  • This video is not meant to be proof of God. All it says is that the absurd nature of the bible does not disprove God. You're missing the point.

  • okay, your point is made. it is impossible to disprove the existence of anything. however, illustrating the absurd nature of the bible does effectively ruin the popular notion of a loving christian god. that's about as far as one can logically take the 'bible bullshit' argument.

  • The burden of proof is on you. Of course trashing the bible is not disproving god - but only the god of the bible. God as a concept cannot be disproven just as an invisible pink unicorn being in your room, jacking off while looking at you RIGHT NOW cannot be disproven :)

  • If god existed it would be clear just like everything else that exists, there is a way to determine it. All the religions get it wrong because the concept of god itself is subjective. Even within christianity, the concept of god varies so much because god does not exist. It is just a concept that people desperately want to exist because they can't face up to their own mortality.

  • This video offers an excellent point, but it is not REALLY aimed at atheists. An atheist does not believe in the existence of a God because he cannot find any real world evidence or scientific proof he exists. However that does not mean Atheists would claim that some form of higher conscious entity COULD not exist, but since no evidence exists then the burden of proof fails on those who claim that it does. Human religion is really irrelevant to this video.

  • God feeds on fear. Fear of Hell. Even in India, where I live, religion is only politics, nothing else.

  • god is logic = theoreticalphysics.webs.com

  • @lazyperfectionist1 If I set out to use the absurdity of the Bible to disprove the existence of the God of the Bible and you point out that some other sort of god or gods could exist, this argument has nothing to do with my argument. Why bring it up? Why present an argument about a god or gods OF SOME SORT as an argument about the God of the Bible in particular? You might as well bring up an argument about whether rap counts as music.

  • @lazyperfectionist1 But the whole thing is that it is BEYOND our current understanding, and so labeling it "God" and subsequently treating it as if it is PART of our understanding is irrational. Our understanding extends so far and no further. The limits of our understanding are always expanding, but they are always there. The only way to treat whatever lies beyond them is as the unknown.

  • @lazyperfectionist1 Do you also speculate about what Hercules, Thor, Ahura Mazda and Santa Claus could be if Hercules, Thor, Ahura Mazda and Santa Claus existed? It sounds as if you may be hinting at the recognition that there may be something beyond our current understanding. Well of course there is. The vast majority of the facts we currently possess are facts we once did not.

  • @lazyperfectionist1 "Religions only begin to scratch the surface of what God could be if God existed."

This is an especially interesting choice of words. "...if God existed." Not "...if God exists." Out of curiousity, why do you speak in the singular in this case? Has it ever occurred to you to perhaps phrase this particular sentiment in the plural? Do you give consideration to what THE GODS could be if THE GODS existed?

  • @lazyperfectionist1 I am at a loss, though, to see how you get from this to spirituality.

I am also at a loss to see how you get from the hypothetical state of there being a larger power outside of this physical world to that power possibly having some sort of will.
