what does KT stand for?

K stands for Cretaceous (more precisely, the German word for it), and T stands for the Tertiary period that lasted from 65 million years ago to just under 2.6 million years ago. The Chicxulub impact marked the end of the Cretaceous period.

Is the KT extinction event supposed to be somehow sad? Without it the conditions that allowed mankind to evolve and flourish would not exist.

if i was to die in some sort of cosmic event, i think it would be a meteor impact, because honestly, 1:12-1:45 is the coolest thing i've ever seen.

The Tertiary is the old name for the earliest period following the Cretaceous. It is now divided into the Palaeogene, Neogene and Quaternary Periods.
