The BM&LP is a land locked railroad that runs from a power plant at Page AZ, to a coal mine near Cow Springs AZ. All locomotives and cars are trucked to the location. We catch the loaded train shortly after it left the mine with E60 BM&LP 6005 leading three other units. Thanks for looking. Jackmp294

  • How much horsepower are these rated?

  • @WestKeystoneVideos They are rated a 6000 hp each. Electric locomotives are very powerful. Thanks for watching...

  • Well that was a rare treat Jack, those locos sound like something from outer space..lol..Why aren't there more electrified railways over there?...5* Bob

  • There was just an artical in what of the local newspapers. Something about Norfolk Southern is tossing the idea of electrification around to power trains, and sell electric power. At one time Pennsy, N&W, and Virginian where electrified. Maybe with the cost of fuel climbing again, and Obama's great idea of "Cap & Trade", fuel and energy prices are going to skyrocket. Way to go Obama. Turn the USA into a third world nation.... SORRY!!!

  • @N330AA Thanks very much for that detailed reply, my comment was left two years agi, but your reply is greatly appreciated...Bob

  • @Dakotajohnboy It's a myth that Europe had to rebuild it's train lines, the track beds in use now are the same that were used centuries ago, just like in the US. But i agree with your other points. Electric trains aren't particularly more environmentally friendly than diesels anyway, they just look it and are more cost effective in certain situations.

  • @robmasterman In America i think distances are too long to justify the overhead of electric lines. Also it would effect the loading gauge on many routes. Finally, freight trains need to be heavy anyway to get the traction, electric trains are more suited to passenger trains which can be lightweight and accelerate travel much faster because of their huge HP output.

  • How many did they get from Amtrak?

  • Thats 24,000 HP right there.

  • GM sold off EMD over 5 years ago. They only hold about 30% of the North American locomotive market, whereas GE holds the remaining 70.

  • @electricrailwaygod Diesels are MORE environment freindly now then 20 years ago. GM is no longer the Monopoly, if you would read first, GE is the leader in road power. Conversion to eletric is costly, time consuming, and in some areas of this country, very hard to do. The added cost of a dual pick-up (third rail and overhead). Europe had an advantage, they had to rebuild after WW2. $1,000,000/mile for regular track, $3-5,000,000/ mile for electric to build new ( TRAINS magazime). Will you pay?

  • Are those E60F's?

    (F=freight designation)

    because they look like a cross between 3/4 a E44 and 1/4 a E60

  • Correction: 60 Hz!

  • I think that I just died of shock! (No, not from the overhead lines of 25KV! 60hZ single phase, But ELECTRIFICATION of cargo trains in America!? So far as I am concerned ALL of your railways there should be like this -- ELECTRIFIED!!!!!!!!! PLEASE GET RID of your environmentally unfriendly diesels!!!!! (Especialy from Genital Monopoly (General Motors) the "Mark of Excrement"!!!
