Here I blab on about handling tegus. I got a request to do this one as well. I mainly explain handling while the B/W Tegu walks around. If you want some more advice on handling tegus, especially babies, let me know. Hope ya like! :)

  • Would you recommend tegus as a beginner reptile? If not, what would you recommend?

  • @Gravios666 NO, NO, NO!!!! Not at all!! Gecko species, Bearded Dragons, MUCH better!!!

  • he i have a columbian b/w tegu and i have him in a glass cage that opens from the top. well at my moms i bought a cage for him so i can take him back and forth. but this cage is a sliding front cage and wood on all other sides. but he hates this cage. normally hes clm but in this cage he bites and runs and wont let me pick him up. i was wonderin if you could tell me what wrong and what i should do..ive had the cage for about a 2 months.

  • @ffllyyiinnggppiigg New cage, new environment he needs time to get used to it. How are you approaching him. He may be seeing you as a threat! Columbians are known for taking longer to build trust with compared to Argentines.

  • @Gravios666 I think it depends. If you have had experience with reptiles (volunteering at exotic pet shops, zoos, helping out friends, etc.) then it isnt THAT awful as a choice. Personally I say just get a Bearded Dragon first and if that works out, try getting more experience with tegus. Possibly going to a breeder or a zoo. Try seeing the complexity of caring for them. Then see if its right for you. Just make sure to do a few MONTHS of research at the minimum....

  • nice tegus man. Im hoping to get a black and gold eventually but Im gonna get used to some smaller lizards first. Im getting a leopard gecko pretty soon! Im very exited about it ^^

  • @JandDReptiles wow!! need stitches? i was bitten by a 3 footer, and my friend was bitten by a 4 and a half footer. mine didn't really hurt at all, only drew a couple drops of blood and some bruising. friend's bite wasn't all that bad, just some blood and bruising....if it isn't a feeding response bite or an aggresive tegu you likes hurting people, a bite won't do much damage in my opinion....lol

  • @beardedDRAGON007 How big was the tegu. The B/W in this video bit me on a feeding day and split the skin right down my finger.

  • @TheRavenAndTheCoyote honestly bites arent too bad....my friend was bitten by an extreme giant tegu as a feeding bite with head shaking and everything and only a little bit of blood. IT HURTS, but very rare too get serious damage. only about 5 people have ever gotten a finger bitten off. tegus have the capability to do serious damage but most of the time they dont.

  • Your red tegu weighs more than my cat. That is AWESOME.
