About 300 people gathered outside Hazelwood coal fired power station for a work party on the 350.org day of global climate action. The crowd heard from a couple of speakers, including Shaun, before marching to the front gate where a solar power tower was erected to show the need to replace Hazelwood, one of the most carbon polluting power stations in the industrial world, with solar power and other renewable energy systems.

  • According to NOAA and NASA 2010 tied with 2005 for hottest year on record for global average surface temperature. This was in a year with a strong La Nina which acted to moderate the temperature in the later half of 2010. The long term trend is increasing global average temperatures, but of course temp rises will vary with region. The poles (cryosphere) in particular are warming at a much faster rate.
