Do you know that many Hindu Holy books give this very answer.Ever heard of the Shanti sloka:It goes a bit like this-"Achieve immortality through knowledge and godhood through wisdom.Grow higher than the elements by understanding them,Overcome karma etc etc"Matches your comment a lot.
