9017 Llangollen

For the Betton Grange Society's "Steel, Steam & Stars 2" gala, Dukedog 9017 was brought back to North Wales, on the Llangollen Railway, from the Bluebell Railway in Sussex.

It was the first time a Dukedog had been in North Wales for nearly 50 years, for they were synonymous with the area in steam days. Not only that but she was repainted into BR Black for the occasion as well, which itself was a first in 50 years too.

Here we see a selection of clips from her 2 month stay at Llangollen, with most scenes being on her final weekend in service before she returned to Sussex.

The shots entering the tunnel and at Goods Junction are not accessible to the Public, being a working volunteer on the Llangollen Railway and part of the 6880 Society I have a PTS that entitles me to go trackside.

The final shot is dedicated to Nigel Valentine. Apologies for its abrupt ending, but it was this point my tape ran out.

Nice video there. Is Fisherman's crossing within a 15minute walk from Glyndyfrdwy?

Depending upon how quickly you walk yes. A lot of people do walk to here especially on gala days.

A gorgeous engine, and some lovely footage of her. I think she was the star of the show for nearly everyone, upstaging Royal Scot and even City of Truro! Quite a lively performer, too.

I took many stills of her during the Gala (see my slideshow) and some video the following week-end.
